Kia Sonet launch delayed due to COVID-19; Will be more than Rs 8 lakh.

Unlike previous speculations, the Sonet will not start from Rs 7 lakh, ex-showroom.
Features in the Kia Sonet would include a Bose surround sound.
The Sonet will be positioned as a premium offering above the Hyundai Venue.

According to a recent report by Indian Autos Blog, the Kia Sonet will debut in India soon. Before the
outbreak of COVID-19, it was slated to be launched in August this year, however, that may get either
delayed or it may happen online. More details will surface as we get closer to the launch date. However,
unlike previous speculations on the pricing which was expected to start from Rs 7 lakh, ex-showroom,
the Kia Sonet is expected to start from Rs 8 lakh, ex-showroom or possibly more. Kia has been pitched as
a premium brand that offers more features and a more ‘millennial’ design language over its parent
company’s models such as the Hyundai Venue. Not that the Hyundai Venue lacks anything in terms of
design or features, but, the idea behind Kia’s premium price tag is not to kill its own brand, Hyundai,
that offers slightly more affordable options.

So, in order not to have an in-house competition, sources at Hyundai told Indian Autos Blog that the Kia
Sonet is expected to be priced from Rs 8 lakh onwards. This price bracket fills the gap between the
Hyundai Venue and the Hyundai Creta giving another option to potential customers who may not have
the bandwidth of the new Creta but maybe are not just impressed with the Venue on any of its

This is exactly where the Kia Sonet would fill the shoes and bring about another option to potential
buyers. The Sonet Concept was first showcased at this year’s Auto Expo in India and the production
model is expected to be very close in terms of the design to the showcased concept. Kia intends to sell
70,000 units annually of the Sonet which will be an impressive figure.
It is a clear indication that despite Kia is a competitor to Hyundai, the company has the product
placement very clear and intends to fill every gap offering more options to its potential customers.
